NIMC New Multi-Purpose ID Card: How To Apply

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a new high-tech ID card with extra features, like making payments, as a new effort under President Bola Tinubu’s government. This project, done together with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System, brings out the AfriGO card. This card is a local one that will change how people in Nigeria use social and financial services.

The card can function as a debit and prepaid card for both banked and unbanked individuals. Biometric authentication, such as fingerprint and picture, to aid identity verification. Offline capability that will allow transactions to be carried out in areas with limited network coverage

The NIMC’s latest card aims to provide a trustworthy way to prove who you are, making it easier for Nigerians to use services from both the government and private companies.

With many uses, this card marks an important improvement in Nigeria’s system for IDs and banking. It combines different services into one easy-to-use card.

Besides being an ID, this card helps with buying things and using various services, helping the government’s plan for a better and more connected system.

The card is also ready to work with digital money like eNaira and meets international security and operation standards, making sure it’s safe and reliable.

The NIMC has shared steps on how to get this all-in-one card, starting a new chapter in how Nigeria manages IDs and includes more people in financial activities.

How to Get the New NIMC Card

1. Go to your nearest bank or a bank-approved place and ask for the ID card that also lets you make payments.
2. Show your National Identification Number (NIN) to prove your identity and that you’re at least 18.
3. The bank will check your NIN with the NIMC and then get your ID information in a certain format.
4. The bank will prepare your card with secure payment data following the standard Europay, Mastercard, and Visa (EMV) guidelines and then get it printed.
5. The bank gives you your new card after it’s made.

What Not to Do With Your New NIMC Card

You shouldn’t share photocopies or scans of your card that show payment details with people or places that aren’t allowed to have them.

Even though you can’t see your NIN on the card, it can be found by scanning the card’s QR code.

Remember, only people with a National Identification Number (NIN) can get these cards.
