The Labour Party (LP) has decided to keep its 2027 presidential election ticket for Peter Obi.
During the party’s national convention held in Anambra State on Wednesday, where Julius Abure was re-elected as national chairman, a statement was made indicating that Obi would be the party’s only presidential candidate for the next election. This exclusivity was also granted to Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, for the gubernatorial ticket. The decision was based on Obi’s contributions and actions before, during, and after the 2023 general election, as well as on the performance and progress made by Otti as governor.
The convention also addressed various significant topics, including security, food scarcity, the conflict in Gaza, and the recent general elections. The party called for the establishment of state policing and urged President Bola Tinubu to take urgent actions to prevent economic downfall and to stimulate growth and development.
Additionally, there were accusations from some party members against Abure, alleging that he forged signatures to authorize certain actions and misappropriated N3.5 billion meant for the party’s 2023 election campaign.
