Economic Hardship

Economic Hardship

Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, the wife of Enugu State’s Governor Peter Mbah, has decided to help three children whose mother sadly took her own life by running into a moving car, due to the prevailing Economic Hardship in the country.

The First Lady of Enugu has promised to look after these children’s everyday needs and their education.

She shared her plan to offer scholarships through her Custos Care Foundation during a surprise visit to the Ogui Police Station in Enugu, where the children were being held.

It appears the mother, struggling with depression due to rising living costs, left her children at the police station, removed her clothes, and then ran into a moving vehicle, leading to her death. This tragic event left her three children, all under the age of 6, without a mother.

The oldest child, when asked about their dad, mentioned they had lost him but couldn’t provide any more details about their family or where they lived.

Mrs. Mbah has pledged to fund the children’s education from nursery through to university. She also made sure the children were moved from the police station to a safe home where the state will look after them.

While talking to reporters, Mrs. Mbah asked people facing depression to seek help and counseling instead of making extreme choices.

She also encouraged the Commissioner for the Ministry of Children, Gender, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, to step up efforts in raising awareness and providing counseling, particularly for those who are depressed.

This action comes at a time when many Nigerians are finding life very hard because of economic policies introduced by President Bola Tinubu, which have led to higher inflation and increased prices for goods and services, and unwholesome economic hardship
