FIFA: Super Eagles move 14 places up, ahead Ivory Coast, now 28th in FIFA ranking

The Super Eagles, Nigeria’s national football team, recently climbed 14 spots in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking, moving from 42nd to 28th place globally.

In the rankings for African teams, they advanced from sixth to third place.

This improvement marks their best position since May 2013, thanks to their performance at the African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where they finished second, winning a silver medal.

Although they had an unbeaten streak, the Super Eagles were defeated 2-1 by Cote d’Ivoire in the final match.

Cote d’Ivoire also moved up in the rankings, from 49th to 39th place worldwide. Meanwhile, Morocco and Senegal continue to lead as the top teams in Africa.

Globally, Argentina holds the number one spot, with France and Brazil following in second and third places, respectively.

The FIFA Men’s World Ranking is a system used by the world football governing body to rank men’s national teams based on their game performance. Teams earn points from all international matches recognized by FIFA, with the best teams ranked highest.

The next update for the FIFA world ranking is scheduled for April 4, 2024.
