The Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings, released annually, are a global evaluation of universities. The 2024 edition covers 1,907 universities from 108 countries and regions, assessing them on 18 indicators related to teaching, research, industry impact, and international outlook.
The 2024 rankings analyzed over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and collected feedback from 68,402 scholars. It also processed data from 2,673 institutions, resulting in 411,789 data points.
For the ninth consecutive year, the University of Oxford leads the global rankings, setting a record for the longest reign, surpassing Harvard’s eight-year streak that ended in 2011. Stanford University moved up to second place, while Harvard dropped to fourth. The University of Cambridge fell to fifth place after sharing third place in 2023.
