Democracy Day: FG Sets Up Committee For Celebrations

The federal government has started a new committee with 17 members to plan the 2024 Democracy Day Celebration. This committee is responsible for creating a special and memorable event to mark the day.

Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), launched this committee. During the launch, he spoke about the importance of Democracy Day as a time to remember and honor the national heroes who fought for democracy in our country.

He mentioned, “I am happy to start this committee for the Democracy Day Anniversary. This celebration is a chance for us to think about the hard work and sacrifices of our national heroes who established democracy here.”

Akume also said that Democracy Day is a time to show the country’s progress in overcoming various social and economic challenges.

The committee has planned several events for the celebration, including a press briefing, religious services, a public lecture, and a parade with a presidential speech.

The proposed activities lined up for the 2024 Democracy Day Celebration are: World Press Briefing on Thursday, 6th June, 2024; Juma’at Service on Friday, 7th June, 2024; Church Service on Sunday 9th June, 2024; Symposium/Public Lecture on Monday, 10th June, 2024 and the Presidential Broadcast alongside Parade on Wednesday, 12th June, 2024.

To make sure these events go smoothly, Akume set up 11 smaller groups focusing on different aspects like security, medical needs, media coverage, and more.

The committee is led by Akume and includes various government officials and advisors. Their job is to ensure everything is well planned and executed, include any necessary organizations or people, document the events, and handle any additional tasks needed for a successful celebration.
