The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public warning, declaring a prohibition on the sale and utilization of Dex Luxury Bar Soap.
This announcement was made through a statement on their official website, attributing the ban to the soap’s content of Butyphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA).
According to NAFDAC, “This product fails to meet the Cosmetic Products Regulation as it contains Butyphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), which is banned in cosmetics due to potential reproductive harm, risk to unborn children, and possible skin sensitization.
Consequently, some regulatory and public bodies in the EU have implemented a ban on the product’s marketing.” The agency detailed the product as follows: Product Name – Dex Luxury Bar Soap (No 6 Mystic Flower); Brand – DEX; Manufacture Country – Turkey; Model – 11.11.22; Barcode – 8694965531; Category – Cosmetics.
The statement further advised, “Despite not being listed in the NAFDAC database, importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers should remain cautious and vigilant within the supply chain to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, and usage of the mentioned product. Verify the product’s authenticity and condition. Anyone in possession should cease selling or using it and surrender any stock to the closest NAFDAC office.
The agency also urges healthcare professionals and consumers to report any adverse reactions, suspicions of substandard, or counterfeit regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office at 0800-162-3322, or via email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng
Additionally, reporting of adverse events or side effects related to the product’s use is encouraged through the NAFDAC office, the E-reporting platforms on the NAFDAC website, or the Med-safety app available on android and IOS stores, or via email at pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng.”
