On Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced on its X platform account that Nigeria won’t be able to join the UEFA U16 Development Tournament starting on Friday. The Spanish Embassy has refused to give visas to Nigeria’s Future Eagles U15 team players and didn’t say why.
The NFF explained, “The Spanish Embassy has not given visas to the Nigeria U15 team, Future Eagles, so they cannot go to the UEFA U16 Development Tournament starting on Friday.”
Nigeria’s U15 team, the Future Eagles, were supposed to travel to Spain on Tuesday afternoon for the tournament. They were invited because of Nigeria’s strong history in youth football, including winning five world U17 championships and making it to the FIFA World Cup final twice at the U20 level.
The Future Eagles had been preparing at the Remo Stars’ Sports Institute in Ikenne for a week. They played two games against the Remo Stars’ U16 boys (Beyond Limits FC), winning one and losing one.
The group going to Spain, including 20 players, was going to be led by Zannah Mohammed Malah, a member of the NFF Technical and Development Committee.
