Zenith Bank Plc has named Dr. Adaora Umeoji as its new main boss, making her the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. This news was shared in a statement by the bank’s company secretary, Michael Otu, and it was officially sent to the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Tuesday.
Dr. Umeoji will start her new role on June 1, 2024. She takes over from Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, who will leave his position on May 31, 2024.
The statement highlighted that Dr. Umeoji is the first woman to become the GMD/CEO of the bank. Her promotion follows the bank’s practice of choosing leaders from within its ranks, showing its commitment to preparing its employees for top positions.
Before being promoted, Dr. Umeoji was the bank’s Deputy Managing Director since October 28, 2016. She brings nearly 30 years of experience in banking, 26 of which she spent at Zenith Bank.
Dr. Adaora Umeoji has studied at some of the world’s top schools. She went to the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School and got a certificate from the Global Banking Program at Columbia Business School. She has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, another in accounting, and a top honors degree in law from Baze University, Abuja. She also earned a Master of Laws from the University of Salford in the UK, a Master in Business Administration from the University of Calabar, and a doctorate in business administration from Apollos University in the USA.
Additionally, she has a certificate in Economics for Business from the MIT Sloan School of Management in the USA. Dr. Adaora Umeoji has also participated in various management programs at renowned universities worldwide, including a program on strategic thinking and management at Wharton Business School in the USA.
