The University of Ilorin in Kwara State announced on Monday that it had expelled at least nine students because they were caught cheating. The university’s Corporate Affairs director, Kunle Akogun, shared this information in a statement and a school bulletin.

The decision to expel these students came after the Vice Chancellor agreed with the suggestions from the Students’ Disciplinary Committee. This committee had its 219th meeting on January 10 and 11, 2024.

The students who were expelled were in their first, third, and fourth years of study.

They came from various departments and faculties in University of Ilorin, including Agriculture (Aquaculture and Fisheries, Agricultural Extension and Rural Development), Arts (Linguistics and Nigerian Languages), CIS (Library and Information Science, Telecommunication Science), Education (Adult and Primary Education Studies), Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering), and Life Science (Zoology).

Here are the details of the expelled students:

  1. Lateef Lukman Olayemi from Agriculture/Aquaculture and Fisheries, a fifth-year student, was expelled for cheating.
  2. Kuranga Abdulmuiz Olalekan from Agriculture/Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, also in the fifth year, was expelled for the same reason.
  3. Adebisi Janet Bosede from Arts/Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, a first-year student, was expelled for cheating.
  4. Ogundijo Abdulmalik Akinkunmi from CIS/Library and Information Science, a fifth-year student, faced expulsion for cheating.
  5. Ashekun Oladiji Quadri from CIS/ Telecommunication Science, a fourth-year student, was expelled for cheating.
  6. Eqwudah Lucky Ojonumba from Education /Adult and Primary Education Studies, a third-year student, was expelled for cheating.
  7. Musa Mohammed Asuku from Engineering/Electrical and Electronic Engineering, a fifth-year student, was expelled for cheating.
  8. Ahmed Saddam Opeyemi from Engineering/ Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, another fifth-year student, was expelled for cheating.
  9. Ayinla Jamiu Olaitan from Life Science /Zoology, a fourth-year student, was also expelled for cheating.
