The Nigerian government plans to start teaching 270,000 Nigerians different tech skills soon. Bosun Tijani, who is in charge of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, mentioned that they will inform everyone who got selected on February 29, 2024.
This training is part of a big project by the Nigerian government called the 3MTT programme, aiming to teach three million Nigerians tech skills.
A new group of 270,000 Nigerians will be added to this 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme by the end of February 2024. Bosun Tijani shared this news on February 19, 2024.
He talked about this as he was wrapping up the first part of the programme, which has a goal to help three million Nigerians learn tech skills.
On the social media platform X, Tijani shared that they would announce who made it into the next round on February 29, 2024, and that training would start in March.
He shared that the first group of 30,000 people learned a lot through detailed training in 12 areas of tech in the past months. He talked about what Nigeria learned from this first experience and how they plan to do better with each new group.
He also mentioned that 1,400 organizations are ready to work with people from the first round of training. The next part of the training will include three groups and should finish by September 2025.
A report from BusinessDay mentioned that Nigeria wants to be known for its tech talent, similar to India, through the 3MTT scheme. This program will teach Nigerians skills like software development, design, data analysis, cybersecurity, and more.
Earlier, Bosun Tijani said they got over 1 million applications for the 3MTT programme.
He highlighted that an important goal of this programme is to grow Nigeria’s tech talent, which will help improve its digital economy and make Nigeria known for its tech expertise.
