JAF: Nigerians Should Protest Against Tinubu’s Policies

The Joint Action Front (JAF) is urging the people of Nigeria to stand up and voice their opposition against the soaring cost of living and the policies of President Bola Tinubu, which they believe are harming the public. The leaders of JAF, Chairperson Dr. Dipo Fashina and Secretary Comrade Abiodun Aremu, have openly criticized President Tinubu’s administration, calling it a failure that clearly doesn’t care about the people, especially since taking office less than a year ago.

JAF argues that life has become significantly harder for most people due to the government’s harmful policies, including the sharp increase in petrol prices and the severe devaluation of the naira. These actions, driven by international financial organizations like the IMF and World Bank, have pushed the price of basic goods and services beyond what most people can afford, worsening the economic situation and contributing to increased insecurity.

The group praises the protests in Niger, Kano, Kogi, and other states against the harsh conditions imposed by what they describe as Tinubu’s insensitive and corrupt regime. JAF warns that without pushback, the situation could lead to chaos and emphasizes the urgent need for mass resistance.

JAF calls on workers, young people, and the poor across Nigeria to come together, hold mass meetings, rallies, and protests, and form committees to prepare for the struggles ahead. They commit to educating and mobilizing the masses to fight against Tinubu’s harsh policies and demand their reversal.

The group also criticizes the government for offering superficial solutions instead of addressing the root causes of the issues, pointing out that previous regimes’ policies have only deepened the economic crisis. They question the justification for public universities raising fees and argue that the government’s policies are designed to benefit the corrupt elite at the expense of the ordinary people.

JAF supports the two-week ultimatum given by organized labor to the government and suggests a 48-hour general strike and mass protest as the next step. They advocate for a living wage for workers, attention to the rising fees in public tertiary institutions, and the proper funding and management of public education and healthcare.

Finally, JAF calls for a complete overhaul of the current capitalist system, which they see as the root of privatization, deregulation, and exploitation, advocating for a new, just political and economic system.
